Operations at TD Securities

Global Operations provides critical infrastructure services supporting the trading, investment and corporate banking functions of TD Securities. The associate program allows the candidate a wide exposure to different areas of Global Operations and related groups.

 

The Operations Leadership Associate program is a 2 year rotational program consisting of three 8-month rotations leading to a full-time role within Operations.

 

Operations Leadership Associate

Each of the three rotations has a distinct theme and focuses on building specialized skills, as per below. Responsibilities in each rotation will include:

1st Rotation: Operational Knowledge

  • Complete transaction processing or other processing activities.
  • Process transactions accurately and on time.
  • Escalate processing issues where necessary to ensure a high level of service is maintained.
  • Serve clients as required – adhere to Service Level Agreements and internal service delivery standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery, support process improvement initiatives.
  • Prioritize and manage own workload to meet SLA requirements for service and productivity.
  • Follow firm and industry regulations and operating practices in completing and recording transactions for either the firm, or clients.
  • Escalate non-standard or high risk transactions or other activities as appropriate.
  • Ensure documentation prepared / completed is accurate and properly reflects client / business intentions and is consistent with relevant rules / regulations.
  • Complete investigations – report / escalate risk issues identified or process gaps.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery
  • Assist in analysis, development, testing and implementation of operating and process improvements

2nd Rotation: Innovation, Process Improvement & Projects

  • Act as a specialist owner or representative in the discipline.
  • Lead / participate in the identification, development and implementation of new products, operating workflow, additional services/applications or operational efficiencies for Global Operations & Technology.
  • Identify, document, investigate and resolve service delivery issues.
  • Manage relationships with the client, and other areas of TDS.
  • Act as a project manager for small-scale projects/initiatives.
  • Initiate or participate in projects – follow project management methodologies, communicate project status and provide timely escalation of issues to senior management to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Interface with regulators, external groups (legal firms, accountants etc.), suppliers on operating and service delivery issues relative to the specific area of functional expertise as authorized by the manager.
  • Escalate non-standard or high risk transactions or other activities as appropriate.
  • Acquire and apply expertise in the discipline, provide guidance, assistance and direction to others in TD Securities.
  • Identify, recommend and effectively execute standard practices applicable to the discipline.
  • Analyze service delivery issues and identify potential solutions that enhance the customer experience and support TD Securities business objectives.

3rd Rotation: Leadership

  • Coach and develop employees - ensure performance management activities are undertaken and completed for all employees.
  • Provides management with analysis of key process drivers, root causes, and provides recommendations for improvements.
  • Lead a team in delivering service or transaction processing consistent with Global Operations & Technology business objectives.
  • Monitor service delivery against standards; implement action to ensure service deliverables are achieved consistently.

  • Apply knowledge of TDS systems, processes and regulations in resolving escalated client issues – ensure communication with key stakeholders elsewhere in TDS.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with internal partners for the purposes of delivering optimal customer service.
  • Adhere to operating standards and processes – check and validate work of team members. Monitor service, productivity and efficiency levels within own function; assess and propose process improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure that employees are aware of the impact of their work on the activities of others outside of their function/unit.
  • Coordinate the sharing of information, skills, and knowledge among team members.

  • Facilitate change through positive reinforcement of milestones and successes – escalating key issues to more senior management as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Business or related undergraduate degree and a demonstrated record of achievement
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills; can see the “big picture” in a complex environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication (both one-on-one and in small groups) and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop good business relationships with customers, business partners and stakeholders.
  • The candidate should be a self-starter and team player who wants to work in a dynamic environment with other great people.
  • Advanced Excel skills are an asset.
  • Well-organized, and can prioritize multiple tasks and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, well organized and positive attitude
  • Ability to be effective in both a team and independent working environment

Your Summer as an Operations Leadership  Associate

This 4 month summer term will provide you exposure to various industries, products and client groups in the interesting and dynamic world of capital markets and international banking. You will be part of a team with targeted deliverables, working on initiatives designed to improve processes within the TD Securities Operations Group. We aim to identify top performers and extend conversion offers at the end of the summer term for a start date the following August or aligned with degree completion.
