When did you join the associate program and where are you now?

 

I joined the TD Securities' summer internship program in 2016 and was situated within the Payments Operations department. My time as a summer associate was phenomenal. I had the opportunity to learn about the business, work on process improvement projects, and gain valuable guidance from my people manager. Being entrusted with challenging work in a fast-paced and stimulating environment helped me develop the skills needed for the associate program I began the following September. I completed my first rotation in Market Data Services within Business Controls and now I am in my second rotation in Global Fixed Income Settlements within Capital Markets.

 

Is there an experience that stands out as having a significant impact on your development within the program?

 

My development has been impacted not by a specific experience, but rather, the design of the program overall. What I love most about this program is that each rotation provides new challenges and learning opportunities, which maximized my development. As an associate, I am exposed to several different departments within Operations. I have the opportunity to see the business from multiple perspectives and develop a wide and varied skill set, transferable from one department to another. This allows me to bring fresh new ideas to the team. 

 

What does it take to succeed within the program?

 

While leadership is essential, this role requires go-getters who are willing to take on projects and responsibilities that may be outside their comfort zone. However, no one is alone. TD gives you all the resources to succeed; you just need to be resourceful, utilize your network, and be willing to adapt. Learning to build relationships and surrounding yourself with high-level performers will help you build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills essential to advance your career.

 

What do you look for in an employer? 

 

I look for an employer that will invest in my professional development and in return, inspire me to perform my absolute best. So far, the program has invested a lot in my personal development, ensuring I gain operational knowledge, leadership experience, and the opportunity to work on truly innovative process improvements and projects. This has made me a stronger performer and made my work more enjoyable and fulfilling.

 

The leaders at TD Securities have surpassed my expectations. Their open-door policy and hands-off approach gives employees the freedom and opportunity to take charge, be innovative, and think outside the box. Overall, I am happy to come to work every day. I love the supportive nature of the people I work with and I am always excited to see what new challenges are waiting for me at the office.
